Souvenirs
A Solo Exhibition by John O’ Flynn
After a successful debut solo show last November, John is back with his second major exhibition of work. John does not see the work in Souvenirs as an end product, but more so a bi product of an ever long pursuit to communicate the seemingly ineffable. An earnest attempt to glean some faint memento’s from the ethereal place we hold dear. A place we only visit in rare moments. Magic moments that somehow feel like a mix of vivid nostalgia fused with profound hope. Moments of pure excitement. But these occasions are brief, too brief. The work in Souvenirs aims to remind us of these special instances. Capturing moments as they are experienced, not as they are seen.
The exhibition features over 20 new works from John across the mediums of paint and sculpture. Central to the exhibition is multiple works referencing the DART railway line as well as a series of sculptural pieces that explore the capacity of consumer electronics in a gallery setting.

Research and Process
Pivotal to John’s practice are extensive phases of photography and observation. John values exploring and connecting firmly with his subject matter. He is at his most stimulated when in transit and takes particular interest in the DART railway service in Dublin. John’s distinct eye for colour and composition can be seen in the research images for Souvenirs (below). Some images of the artists creative process are also shown here.
